‘Chic Might Be the Pick to Click in Trials

Classic Sassy Chic, who has won two in a row, is among 15 3-year-olds who will try to qualify tonight for the upcoming Bayer Legend California Challenge.

A daughter of A Classic Dash, owned by Jackie and Rod MacPherson and trained by Felix Gonzalez, Classic Sassy Chic is in the second of two trials for the 400-yard Challenge. The 10 fastest qualifiers will move on to the Sept. 20 final.

Classic Sassy Chic won six of nine and nearly $131,000 as a 2-year-old and she hasn’t been worse than third in her five outings this year.

Trainer Paul Jones has four horses in the first trial, including I Ought To Be First, who won the Vandys Flash Handicap on July 18. He’ll also send out Cee A Dash, Dealadash and Loves That Gold.

Four! High On Zevi and Double Timen in the first, Dream Dollars, Ag Golden Memories and First Payboy in the second, Clovis Queen in the third and Takin On The Crunch, Tricky Beduino, Feature Willie, Rompnred and My Favorite Game in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Kings Whisper gets jockey Baltazar Contreras for his debut in the sixth. Dash On Diamond is a new face from Wyoming in the seventh.
