Tape Shows Harridge Incident

Air Force quarterback Chance Harridge was retaliating to a blow from Northwestern assistant Jay Peterson when he delivered a punch that led to his ejection during Saturday’s 22-21 victory over the Wildcats at Evanston, Ill., Academy officials said.

Air Force released a videotape of the play on Tuesday and it shows that after Harridge was tackled and fumbled near the Northwestern sideline during a third-quarter play, Peterson rushed onto the field to congratulate linebacker John Pickens, who recovered the fumble.

The videotape appears to show Peterson’s elbow striking Harridge in the neck as he reached to hug Pickens. Harridge then delivered his retaliatory punch and was ejected.

Northwestern Athletic Director Mark Murphy said Peterson meant no harm. Harridge is expected to play Saturday against North Texas.
