Halladay Finishes His Season in Style

Becoming the only 22-game winner in baseball and setting a club record for wins meant a great deal to Roy Halladay.

Halladay completed what may very well be a Cy Young Award-winning season by pitching his ninth complete game as the Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, Saturday at Toronto.

Halladay (22-7) surpassed Roger Clemens and Jack Morris for the team record in wins.

“This was pretty special to me,” said the normally reserved Halladay, who pumped his fist after the last out. “Sometimes you don’t put an emphasis on numbers, but when you get a chance, and things come together, it’s just an unbelievable feeling.”

The 26-year-old right-hander gave up four runs and eight hits, while striking out nine and walking one.

He tied Mark Mulder for the most complete games in the majors.

New York 6, Baltimore 2 -- Roger Clemens walked off a winner in the final regular-season start of his career.

The Rocket earned his 310th victory and Juan Rivera homered twice for the Yankees at New York.

The Yankees reached 100 wins for the second straight year and the 17th time in their history.

Chicago 19, Kansas City 3 -- The 19 runs were the most ever scored by the White Sox against the Royals since Kansas City joined the American League as an expansion team in 1969. Every player in the starting lineup Saturday at Kansas City, Mo., had at least one RBI and scored at least once.

Chicago’s offense overshadowed Bartolo Colon’s five-hitter for his 100th victory.

Tampa Bay 5, Boston 4 -- Dave McCarty’s fly ball to left field wound up in the stands, but he was called out because of fan interference in the ninth inning and the Red Sox lost at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Seattle 7, Oakland 4 -- Ichiro Suzuki hit a tiebreaking single and Rey Sanchez had a two-run double in the sixth inning for the Mariners at Seattle.
