Wizards Can’t Stop Donovan
Landon Donovan scored two goals to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday at Kansas City, Mo.
Donovan opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he headed a pass from Brian Mullan past goalie Tony Meola.
In the 59th minute, Donovan outraced defender Shavar Thomas to a ball in the penalty area and again beat Meola for his sixth goal of the season.
San Jose (7-7-6) has lost only once in its last seven games. Kansas City (9-6-5) played its first scoreless game since May 30.
Chris Klein, who was to have joined the U.S. team for this week’s World Cup qualifier at Jamaica, tore a left knee ligament.
New England 2, D.C. United 2 -- Andy Dorman scored in the 85th minute to lift the visiting Revolution (5-8-8) into a tie (6-8-7) at Washington.
Jaime Moreno scored both United goals.
Colorado 3, Chicago 0 -- Mark Chung, Matt Crawford and John Spencer scored goals at Chicago to lead the Rapids (6-7-8) to their second shutout over the Fire (5-8-7) this season. Joe Cannon made eight saves for Colorado.
