State’s West Nile Cases Climb 12% in a Week

The California Department of Health Services reported Tuesday that the tally of West Nile virus cases in the state has reached 189, an increase of nearly 12% from last week.

Three counties account for the vast majority of the cases, led by San Bernardino with 76, Los Angeles with 59 and Riverside with 40. The mosquito-transmitted virus has killed five people in the state.
