Bull Market Set for Comeback

Share

Bull Market, who hasn’t raced since finishing fourth to stablemate Vindication in the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, is one of 10 horses scheduled to go in today’s seventh race, a $49,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs, at Santa Anita.

With heavy rain expected, the field could shrink considerably, meaning Bull Market’s return could be delayed for another day.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Bull Market, a 4-year-old son of Holy Bull, has won once in four starts.

He broke his maiden in his career debut at Del Mar on July 24, 2002, was sixth in the Del Mar Futurity, then was second by a nose to stablemate Kafwain in the Norfolk locally before the Breeders’ Cup at Arlington Park.

Sidelined since by injury, Bull Market has trained well for his return, turning in a 1:11 2/5 workout at six furlongs eight days ago.

The rest of the field includes Popularize, West War, Luther, Midafternoon, Iron Halo, Jack’s Silver, Valley’s Passion, Friendly Mike, who is also trained by Baffert, and Terrell, who was impressive beating maidens in his first start of 2004 on Jan. 31.

Race of the day: Tiger Heart, a promising 3-year-old for trainer Kenny McPeek, heads a field of 11 in today’s seventh race, a $34,000 allowance at a mile and 70 yards, at Gulfstream Park.

One for the road: Double Life looked good breaking his maiden despite a bad start in his bow at Golden Gate Fields on Jan. 30 and can come right back today for new trainer Bill Morey Jr. Tab in today’s fourth at Golden Gate. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of more than $42,000.

Exotically speaking: A trifecta in the fifth using Certain Act on top with Total Advantage, Punchullah and Clear Creek Canyon in the two hole and all in the third spot.
