Kansas Runs Past Villanova

Keith Langford scored seven points during a 23-5 run and No. 13 Kansas then withstood a late rally for an 86-79 victory over Villanova on Friday night.

The Jayhawks (8-2), who made 35 of 41 free throws, beat an unranked opponent at home for the 51st consecutive time.

By the time Langford made two free throws to cap the run, the Jayhawks led, 66-48, with 8:58 left.

But the Wildcats (8-3) closed to 80-75 with 55 seconds left on two free throws by Allan Ray.

After Aaron Miles made two free throws for the Jayhawks, Ray scored to cut the lead to 82-77 with 38 seconds left. Miles made two more free throws with 34 seconds left to give Kansas an 84-77 lead.

No. 1 Connecticut 92, Rice 83 -- Emeka Okafor, a star at Houston Bellaire High, treated his hometown fans with 27 points and 14 rebounds to help the Huskies (11-1) win their eighth game in a row.

Trailing 41-33 at halftime, the Owls (8-3) got to within five points with 12:37 to play on a free throw by Michael Harris, but baskets by Okafor and Hilton Armstrong and a three-point shot by Charlie Villanueva made it 62-50.

No. 19 Texas 99, Texas Arlington 79 -- The Longhorns (7-2) topped 90 points for the fourth time this season in extending their home winning streak to 22 games.

P.J. Tucker led Texas with 22 points despite playing only five minutes in the first half because of foul trouble. Derrick Obasohan scored 25 points to lead the Mavericks (4-6).
