O.C. Fund Manager to Be Extradited

Share

Orange County fund manager James P. Lewis Jr. waived his right to an extradition hearing in Texas and will be returned to Southern California to face fraud charges, FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley said.

A Securities and Exchange Commission civil suit has accused Lewis of reporting phony earnings for 20 years while paying clients who needed money with funds from newcomers. He was arrested Thursday in Houston on a criminal fraud complaint.

Officials said Lewis, 57, took more than $100 million from investors under false pretenses. The former Villa Park resident, whose property and cash holdings totaled about $10 million, agreed Monday in federal court in Houston to allow marshals to return him to California, Bosley said.
