Four men have been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting of a couple in Hawthorne early Monday, including one who barricaded himself for nearly seven hours before surrendering, police said.

A family of five, including a boy, 1 1/2, were in a car at Truro Avenue and 120th Street about 12:30 a.m. when they were fired upon, said Hawthorne Police Lt. Dennis Barberic.

Detectives were unsure of the motive, he said.

The man and woman were hospitalized in stable condition and no one else was injured, police said.

Officers chased the suspects’ car to 130th Street, near Jefferson Avenue, before the men got out of the car, Barberic said.

One of the men was arrested, but another ran into an apartment just as a woman opened the door to let her dog out, police said. The apartment building was evacuated. The suspect, who let the occupants of the house and the dog leave, surrendered just after 7 a.m., Barberic said.

Minutes later, an officer noticed movement in an apartment and police arrested the two remaining suspects, Barberic said.
