Jumpn Makes Trial Run for Burke Memorial

Seven of the 11 races tonight are 350-yard trials for the $400,000 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity. The 10 fastest qualifiers will return for the Grade I final July 31.

Jumpn, a head behind Dash To The End in the Kindergarten Futurity on May 15, is one of eight scheduled to run in the sixth trial. A son of Chicks Beduino, Jumpn has a win in three starts for Dutch Masters III and trainer Jaime Gomez. G.R. Carter will ride the California-bred for the first time, taking over for the retired Joe Badilla, Jr.

La Jolla Ca, who was beaten a half-length and finished third in the Kindergarten, will break from the inside post in the first trial.

Ramon Sanchez will ride the Streakin La Jolla filly, who won her first two starts for owner James Burgess and trainer Paul Jones.

Shots in the dark: Bad Notion is better than his debut would indicate and could improve in the fifth. Jockey Alex Bautista remains with Dash On A Mission in the seventh.
