Bird and Storm Beat Mystics in Overtime

Sue Bird made a spinning reverse layup with 2.6 seconds left in overtime to lift Seattle past Washington, 85-83, in front of 7,867 at Seattle.

The Mystics’ Chasity Melvin missed a 15-footer at the buzzer.

With the game tied, 83-83, Seattle’s Lauren Jackson blocked Chamique Holdsclaw’s shot near the top of the key with seven seconds to play. Bird grabbed the ball and raced down the floor for the winning bucket.

Jackson, who scored a season-high 33 points, combined with Bird to score all 10 of Seattle’s points in overtime. Bird finished with 18 points.

Seattle (13-7) has won three in a row.

Alana Beard led Washington (9-10) with 18 points.

Houston 72, Connecticut 56 -- Tina Thompson scored 18 points to lead the Comets (10-12) to a home victory in front of 7,803.

Nykesha Sales scored 19 points for the Sun (11-11), which has lost three in a row and four of five.
