A rush for Simpson interviews

Share

As the 10th anniversary of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman approaches on June 12, the opportunity for commemorative sit-downs with the Juice has multiple networks scrambling.

NBC News announced Thursday that Katie Couric will interview O.J. Simpson for a one-hour segment on tonight’s “Dateline,” with some additional footage on Monday’s “Today.”

Not to be outdone, Fox News Channel rushed out a transcript of Greta Van Susteren’s already-taped interview set to air Monday, in which Simpson discusses his anger at his late wife and his plans to star in a reality TV show based on MTV’s prank series “Punk’d.” Court TV, for its part, promises that Catherine Crier’s Wednesday interview with Simpson will be the one to watch, because it will be a live, “no-holds-barred” chat with the former actor and running back.

Still unclear is whether Simpson will deliver the ratings punch he did a decade ago. But that hasn’t stopped news producers from chasing the man behind the story. Asked how Couric’s interview came about, an NBC spokeswoman explained, “I’m sure [every network] put in a request” to talk with Simpson.
