Georgia appears to be a team that’s capable of challenging for a national championship.

Louisiana State? Its hopes of making another run at No. 1 are finished.

David Greene set a school record by throwing five touchdown passes and No. 3 Georgia shredded No. 13 LSU’s defense in a 45-16 Southeastern Conference victory Saturday at Athens, Ga.

“It was something you probably just dream about,” Greene said.

Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC) has never been an offensive juggernaut during Mark Richt’s four years as coach, and the Bulldogs scored only three touchdowns in victories over South Carolina and Marshall.

“I was little befuddled,” Richt acknowledged. “We had practiced extremely well. We had some guys who could make plays. I was trying to figure out why we couldn’t make those plays in the game.”

But less than 21 minutes into the game, Georgia already had reached the end zone three times against a defense that was ranked fifth nationally in points and yards given up.

LSU (3-2, 1-2) has not given up as many points since a 56-13 loss to Florida in 1996.

“When things like this happen, you must dig deep down inside,” Tiger Coach Nick Saban said.

No. 16 Florida 45, Arkansas 30 -- Chris Leak threw for a career-high 322 yards and three touchdowns and the Gators extended their winning streak against the Razorbacks to five games at Gainesville, Fla.

Florida (3-1, 2-1) led, 38-7, late in the third quarter before the Razorbacks (3-2, 1-1) scored 23 consecutive points. Quarterback Matt Jones, who leads the conference in offense, hurt the Gators running and passing, but he also threw three interceptions, including one that ended Arkansas’ hopes of victory.

South Carolina 20, Alabama 3 -- Backup quarterback Syvelle Newton rushed for two third-quarter touchdowns and the Gamecocks intercepted four passes to defeat the Crimson Tide at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

South Carolina (4-1, 2-1) bullied Alabama (3-2, 1-2), which has been hampered by quarterback problems since the season-ending knee injury to Brodie Croyle in a Sept. 18 game against Western Carolina.

Vanderbilt 31, Mississippi State 13 -- Jay Cutler ran for one touchdown and threw for another as the Commodores (1-3, 1-2) snapped a 14-game losing streak against SEC Western Division teams with a victory Nashville, Tenn. The Commodores had lost four in a row to the Bulldogs (1-4, 0-3).

Ohio 28, Kentucky 16 -- Scott Mayle caught touchdown passes of 44 and 89 yards at Lexington, Ky., as Ohio (3-2) stunned the Wildcats (1-3).

Mississippi 28, Arkansas State 21 -- Ethan Flatt threw two touchdown passes to Lorenzo Townsend at Oxford, Miss., as the Rebels (2-3) won their 12th in a row against the Indians (1-4).
