Army Ends Losing Streak

Army ended the nation’s longest losing streak at 19 games Saturday, with Tielor Robinson scoring five touchdowns and Carlton Jones running for 180 yards in the Black Knights’ 48-29 victory over Cincinnati at West Point, N.Y.

Robinson scored his fifth touchdown on a 93-yard pass from Zac Dahman with 11:32 left to secure the win for Army, 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Conference USA. Robinson ran for 82 yards as Army had 284 yards on the ground and 111 yards receiving.

Gino Guidugli was 25 for 39 for 350 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bearcats (2-4, 1-2). Army’s last victory came on Nov. 16, 2002, against Tulane, and its last home win was on Oct. 27, 2001, also against Tulane.

“You can’t imagine how the pressure starts to mount with your football team when” you have a losing streak, said Army Coach Bobby Ross, who came out of retirement to take over the struggling program. “When you read about, hear about the longest losing streak in the country, it’s difficult to deal with.”

WEST

Jovon Bouknight and Dustin Pleasant each caught touchdown passes, and Wyoming’s defense forced three turnovers and held an opponent scoreless in the second half for the second straight game as the Cowboys (4-1, 1-0) beat San Diego State (2-3, 0-1), 20-10, in a Mountain West game at Laramie, Wyo. ... Muammar Ali rushed for a career-high 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead New Mexico State (2-4, 2-1) to a 35-32 win over Louisiana Lafayette (3-3, 1-1) in a Sun Belt Conference game at Las Cruces, N.M. ... Jordan Palmer connected on a 91-yard touchdown pass play with Johnnie Higgins Jr. to lift Texas El Paso (3-2, 1-1) to a 24-21 victory over Fresno State (3-2, 0-2) at Fresno.

MIDWEST

Marshall’s Ian O’Connor made three field goals, out-kicking Brooks Rossman, whose miss from 32 yards with 25 seconds left allowed Marshall (2-3, 2-0) to hold on for a 16-13 win over Ohio (3-3, 1-2) in a MAC game at Athens, Ohio.... Josh Betts threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns and Miami of Ohio (3-3, 2-1) scored on six straight second-half possessions to beat Kent State (1-5, 0-3), 47-27, at Oxford, Ohio.... Bruce Gradkowski threw three touchdown passes to Lance Moore to lead Toledo (4-2, 3-0) past Western Michigan (1-4, 0-2), 59-33, in a MAC game at Kalamazoo, Mich.

SOUTH

Cam Broadwell kicked a 30-yard field goal with 12 seconds left to lift East Carolina (1-4, 1-2) past Tulane (1-3, 0-2), 27-25, ending a nine-game home losing streak in a Conference USA game at Greenville, N.C. ... Chris Nendick kicked a 39-yard field goal as time ran out to save Northern Illinois (4-2, 3-0) from a late-game collapse and give the Huskies a 30-28 win over Central Florida (0-5, 0-2) in a MAC game at Orlando, Fla. Northern Illinois led by 21 points at halftime.

SOUTHWEST

Air Force (3-3, 2-1) held off a late rally by New Mexico (2-4, 0-2) for a 28-23 Mountain West victory at Air Force Academy, Colo. The Falcons won despite nearly blowing a 21-0 halftime lead and having two punts blocked for touchdowns.... Ed Bailey ran for 158 of Rice’s 496 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns as the Owls (3-2, 2-1 in the WAC) beat Southern Methodist (1-5, 1-2), 44-10, at Houston.... Freshman Jamario Thomas rushed for a school-record 256 yards and two touchdowns and T.J. Covington returned a fumble 100 yards for a score to lead North Texas (2-4, 2-0) past Utah State (2-4, 2-1), 31-23, in a Sun Belt game at Logan, Utah.

SOUTHLAND

Scott Phaydavong rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns and Daniel Marx caught a 21-yard touchdown pass with 3:38 left, lifting Drake (4-2, 1-0) to a 41-38 victory over San Diego (2-4, 0-1) in a Pioneer game at Des Moines.... Craig Herrera caught three touchdown passes as Cal Lutheran (1-3) defeated Menlo (1-3) at Thousand Oaks.... Karl Ivory intercepted a pass in the end zone with 31 seconds left to keep Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (5-0, 2-0) unbeaten with a 24-17 win over Southern Utah (2-3, 0-1) in a Great West game at Cedar City, Utah.
