Moore Offers Incentives for Student Activism

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Filmmaker Michael Moore on Tuesday said he would endow a scholarship program for students “who stand up to the administration” at Cal State San Marcos.

Moore told an overflow crowd at the Del Mar Fairgrounds that he would award a $5,000 scholarship for each of the four years.

Moore’s lecture criticizing President Bush was moved from campus after university President Karen Haynes said that sponsoring his talk would give the appearance that the university was taking sides in the presidential election.

Moore said Haynes was bowing to Republican pressure.
