Andrew Walter threw for 428 yards and five touchdowns to lead Arizona State to a surprisingly easy 44-7 victory over No. 16 Iowa on Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz.

Walter completed 31 of 43 passes and broke Jake Plummer’s record for career touchdown passes with 66, one more than the Denver Bronco quarterback. The fifth-year senior has 11 touchdown passes this season.

Walter threw a pair of seven-yard touchdown passes to Derek Hagan, found Zach Miller for scores of six and five yards, and had a 14-yard throw to Moey Mutz.

Miller had 10 receptions for 85 yards, and Hagan had his sixth consecutive 100-yard game with 112 in eight catches.

The kickoff was delayed 45 minutes because of lightning.

Once play began, it was clear the Sun Devils (3-0) were still smarting from last year’s 21-2 embarrassment at Iowa, where they were held to 12 first downs and 184 yards of total offense.

The Hawkeyes (2-1), who scored on their opening possession each of the two previous games, were held to 100 yards and six first downs and were in danger of being shut out for the first time since 2000 until Walner Belleus returned a punt 83 yards to score with 18 seconds left.

No. 2 Oklahoma 31, Oregon 7 -- Freshman Adrian Peterson ran for 183 yards and scored two touchdowns in his third straight 100-yard rushing performance to lead the Sooners (3-0) over the Ducks at Norman, Okla.

Peterson carried 24 times to become the first Oklahoma freshman to run for at least 100 yards in each of his first three games.

Jason White completed 17 of 23 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown, and Donta Hickson had a 25-yard touchdown run. Starting tailback Kejuan Jones ran 11 times for 41 yards but didn’t play after the first quarter.

Oregon quarterback Kellen Clemens completed 24 of 35 passes for 179 yards.

Mark Clayton -- who caught six passes for 91 yards -- became the Sooners’ career leader in receptions with a 20-yard catch in the first quarter.

Clayton, who now has 173 receptions, passed Quentin Griffin’s record of 169. Clayton already holds the school records with 2,652 receiving yards and 25 touchdown catches.

No. 20 Wisconsin 9, Arizona 7 -- Booker Stanley ran for a career-high 135 yards in 30 carries, including a seven-yard run for the Badgers (3-0) in a win over the Wildcats (1-2) at Tucson.

The game was delayed for 88 minutes in the second quarter because of lightning.

Mike Allen, who missed a conversion try, kicked a 23-yard field goal with 3:47 to play to give Wisconsin the lead.

Arizona’s Nick Folk, who earlier missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt to the right, missed one from 47 yards to the left with 43 seconds to play.

Coaches for both teams agreed to skip half time because of the long delay, which came with 6:13 left in the second quarter and the game scoreless.

Washington State 49, Idaho 8 -- Josh Swogger completed 12 of 19 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Cougars (2-1) to the easy victory over the Vandals (0-3) at Pullman, Wash.

Jason Hill caught three of Swogger’s touchdown passes and 105 receiving yards

Swogger passed to Hill on a short screen over the middle from the 24, then Hill picked his way through Idaho defenders to complete a 76-yard scoring play to put the Cougars up 28-0 with 9:40 left in the second quarter.

Hill also caught touchdown passes of 10 and 13 yards. Swogger also passed to Marty Martin on a 13-yard scoring pass after the Cougars recovered a fumbled kickoff on the Idaho 13.

Oregon State 17, New Mexico 7 -- Derek Anderson passed for 274 yards, Dwight Wright ran for 108 yards and the Beavers (1-2) held off the Lobos (1-2) at Corvallis, Ore.

Oregon State outgained New Mexico, 398-114, and had the ball for more than 38 minutes, but John Dailey missed field-goal attempts of 43 and 34 yards. Dailey replaced Alexis Serna as the Beavers’ No. 1 kicker after Serna missed three extra points in a 22-21 opening loss at Louisiana State.

Serna replaced Dailey in the fourth quarter and kicked a 35-yard field goal.
