The Dallas Mavericks found a way to get some satisfaction out of beating the Tim Duncan-less San Antonio Spurs -- they set a team record.

Keith Van Horn scored 10 of his 17 points during the game-breaking third quarter of a 104-68 victory Thursday night that kept the visiting Spurs from sweeping the four-game season series. It was Dallas’ biggest victory margin over San Antonio, topping a 32-point win in 1989.

The Spurs, losers of six straight road games without Duncan (ankle), scored only 27 points over the middle two quarters, making two of 17 shots in the third period. They went 0 for 12 on three-point attempts, a first this season.

Dirk Nowitzki, unsure of playing until game time because of a sore right ankle, scored 16 points with eight rebounds in 27 minutes for Dallas.

New Jersey 110, New York 98 -- Jason Kidd had 28 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds at East Rutherford, N.J., in a nasty game that sent the Knicks to their season-high eighth straight loss and moved the Nets within one game of Philadelphia for the final Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Vince Carter had 32 points for the Nets.

The game had two ugly fourth-quarter moments, with both involving New York’s Jerome Williams.

Kidd drew a technical foul after shoving Williams after a pick and Williams got a technical in the closing minutes with a hard foul on Carter.
