Sailor Dies After Boat Hits Jetty
A Laguna Niguel man found floating in the water off Dana Point Harbor after his sailboat hit the breakwater was pronounced dead at San Clemente Hospital, authorities said Monday.
Richard Bilbro, 47, was taken to the hospital after sheriff’s deputies found him floating near the 30-foot Islander sailboat, reported to have hit the rocks about noon, said Lt. Hayward Miller of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies administered first aid at the scene, Miller said, but were unable to revive him. An autopsy is scheduled today.
