Mark Prior has to wait an extra day to make his 2005 debut.

Rain caused postponement of Tuesday’s game between the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs.

The game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader today. Chicago’s Kerry Wood will face Jake Peavy in the first game. Prior, activated from the disabled list Tuesday, will pitch against Brian Lawrence in the second game.

Prior had been scheduled to start Tuesday. He went on the disabled list March 25 because of inflammation in his right elbow.

To clear a roster spot, Chicago optioned right-hander Todd Wellemeyer to triple-A Iowa.

Prior, 30-16 with a 3.08 earned-run average in 70 career starts, has been on the disabled list three times in the last three years. He sat out two months last year because of an inflamed right Achilles’ tendon and an inflamed elbow.

Bill Pulsipher was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring, another hurdle for the St. Louis Cardinals’ left-hander to clear after a four-year absence from the major leagues.

Pulsipher made the Cardinal roster despite injuring the hamstring in spring training and breaking his right big toe when it was struck by a line drive.

The Cardinals recalled left-hander Carmen Cali from triple-A Memphis to fill Pulsipher’s roster spot.

Catcher Charles Johnson rejoined the Tampa Bay Devil Rays after leaving the team for five days to handle a personal matter.... Minnesota put first baseman Justin Morneau on the 15-day disabled list and recalled third baseman Terry Tiffee from triple-A Rochester.
