Carpool identification
Regarding the ugly decals the California Highway Patrol is requiring drivers of hybrids to display (Aug. 26), why doesn’t the state instead issue special license plates with the diamond logo already on it, indicating that the car has been approved to drive in carpool lanes. Such a plate would be unobtrusive, visible on both the front and rear of the car, and could not be easily removed or altered. It would certainly be more aesthetically pleasing than the state-designed decals!
