Alcohol Ban for Most of Greek System Is Lifted
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A six-month ban on alcohol consumption at fraternity and sorority events at UC Berkeley was lifted Thursday for most of the organizations, campus officials announced.
The decision follows the completion by fraternity and sorority leaders of a plan to exert greater control over student drinking, better manage parties and take action against defiant chapters.
About 20 of the school’s approximately 70 Greek organizations remain under the ban, instituted in May, until they, too, reach agreements with campus officials.
