Sa’de Wiley-Gatewood, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard from Pomona, has decided to leave No. 1-ranked Tennessee’s women’s basketball team.

“Sa’de didn’t feel like she could play her game here,” Tennessee Coach Pat Summitt said Monday. “We hate to see her leave the Lady Vol family.”

Wiley-Gatewood had started eight of unbeaten Tennessee’s nine games and averaged eight points in 26.3 minutes after playing in only 13 games as a freshman while battling tendinitis in her knee.

In a statement released by the Lady Vols, she thanked everyone at Tennessee, including Summitt, who Wiley-Gatewood said helped her “improve as a player and to grow as a person.”

“I love my teammates and I appreciate their support while I was going through this,” added Wiley-Gatewood, who underwent surgery in March for her knee problem.

In select games Monday:

No. 25 Temple 69, No. 15 Georgia 66 -- Jennifer Owens made a three-point shot with 1.6 seconds left in overtime to lead the Owls (7-2) over the Bulldogs (7-3) at Philadelphia.

At 66-66, the game appeared headed for a second overtime just before Owens connected from beyond the arc despite tight defense from Georgia’s Cori Chambers, who fouled Owens on the play. Owens missed the free throw, but Georgia’s desperation heave after the miss went out of bounds.

Candice Dupree led Temple with 17 points and nine rebounds. Tasha Humphrey had a game-high 28 points and 16 rebounds for Georgia.

No. 2 Duke 110, Ball State 24 -- The Cardinals (6-3) made only nine of 71 shots (13%) in the loss to the Blue Devils (8-0) at Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils’ previous biggest rout was an 82-point victory over Elon on Nov. 21, 2003.
