Courtney Love Is Taken to Hospital, Released

Two days before a court date to report on her progress in a drug rehabilitation program, rock star Courtney Love was taken by ambulance from a party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel to a Los Angeles hospital, her publicist said Thursday.

The 41-year-old rocker was attending an entertainment industry party for a jeans brand when she felt faint and went outside for air, her publicist, Jill Fritzo, said in the statement.

“A friend called an ambulance for precaution, they took her to the hospital and she was released immediately,” Fritzo said.

Los Angeles Police Officer Kristi Sandoval said officers took a police report involving a “Courtney L.” in the Hollywood area about 10 minutes after midnight Wednesday. Sandoval would not say what the report was about, saying it was confidential.

“This is a preliminary investigation report. We don’t know who filed it ... if it was the victim or another party,” Sandoval said.

Love’s attorney, Michael Rosenstein, told Reuters that his client was making “fantastic” progress in her rehabilitation program and had repeatedly passed drug tests since March.

Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney’s office, said the office had been informed that Love was briefly hospitalized late Wednesday but that she would be present for the court hearing today.

Love was sentenced in February to three years’ probation and anger management counseling after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor assault on a woman at the home of her former boyfriend.

She has been convicted of possessing the painkiller oxycodone without a proper prescription and was sentenced to 18 months’ probation.

She first underwent drug treatment after a 2004 conviction for being under the influence of cocaine. In October 2004, she also was convicted of disorderly conduct at a New York City nightclub for striking a person with a microphone stand.
