Plane Skids on Runway at LAX
A United Airlines commuter plane bound for Santa Barbara from Los Angeles International Airport turned back shortly after takeoff Sunday night, making an emergency landing at 10:16 p.m., fire officials said.
None of the 17 passengers on board were injured, said Jim Wells, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
Pilots had apparently noticed a problem with the nose gear and decided to return to LAX. On landing, the gear collapsed and the plane skidded several hundred yards, Wells said. Two runways were temporarily closed.
