An 11-year-old girl playing inside her San Bernardino apartment with friends was shot and killed and her sister was injured, apparently the unintended victims of a dispute outside their home, police said Monday. A suspect in the shootings remained at large late Monday.

Mynesha Crenshaw suffered a fatal wound to the upper body when gunshots fired from outside her apartment building in the 1400 block of Citrus Avenue blasted through a window and a wall about 7:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Mynesha’s 14-year-old sister, Jaynita McWilliams, also was struck. She was listed in stable condition Monday and was expected to survive, San Bernardino Police Lt. Brian Boom said. No other people inside the apartment were injured.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot-3, 200-pound black male in his 20s. He had a “C” tattooed on his neck and was wearing his hair in braids with light-colored beads, police said. He was believed to have fled in a white compact car.

Police did not know Monday the motive for the shooting, Boom said. Crenshaw’s killing was San Bernardino’s 51st homicide this year.
