Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb will sit out the Eagles’ game against the New York Giants on Sunday because of a groin injury.

Mike McMahon, who had been the third-string quarterback, will get the start over backup Koy Detmer.

McNabb’s status beyond this week is uncertain. He’ll see a specialist today. McNabb has played through several injuries this season, including an abdominal strain that will require surgery.

He planned to have the surgery after the season, but it’s possible he’ll have it sooner.

“It’s just the time of it. When? It’ll be the first surgery I have, so I’m not excited about going under the knife,” McNabb said.

Ken Dorsey will get his second start of the season for the San Francisco 49ers, who made their fourth quarterback change in six games.

The 49ers (2-7) haven’t scored a touchdown in 39 possessions -- more than three games -- and have only eight offensive touchdowns all season.

No. 1 draft pick Alex Smith is expected to be Dorsey’s backup, but isn’t ready for a full week of practice after sitting out the last three games because of strained ligaments in his knee.
