Will Prevue Be Purview of Most Recent Winners?

Only two of the six horses scheduled to run in the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue today at Hollywood Park are coming off victories.

Your Tent Or Mine has been away since winning in his debut Sept. 4 at Del Mar for owner Anthony Speelman and trainer Neil Drysdale.

Old Thunder won more recently, by eight lengths on Oct. 22 at Santa Anita for owner Ilona Whetstone and trainer Ron McAnally.

A 2-year-old son of Fusaichi Pegasus, Old Thunder needed four races to get his first win but seems to be improving, and his last victory took on added significance when runner-up Only In Louisiana returned to win easily at Hollywood Park.

The probable favorite in the seven-furlong Prevue is Da Stoops, a California-bred son of Distorted Humor.

Trained by Bob Baffert, he is returning to a sprint after finishing third behind promising youngsters A.P. Warrior and Bob And John in a two-turn race at Santa Anita two weeks ago.

Rounding out the field are Bengal Lore, the likely pacesetter who was beaten by a nose in the Sunny Slope Stakes last month in Arcadia; The Pharaoh and longshot The Five J’s.

Race of the day: The $150,000 Cardinal Handicap, a Grade III for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on the turf, is included in a pick-six carry-over of nearly $1.7 million at Churchill Downs. The carry-over amount is a track record and came about when no one was able to hit the pick six again on Friday. The pick six begins with the fifth race today.

One for the road: Awesome Glory returns to her preferred surface, dirt, and can win for the fourth time in 12 starts on the main track in today’s eighth at Louisiana Downs. This is opening day of a 37-day New Orleans Fair Grounds meet, being held at Louisiana Downs because of Hurricane Katrina damage at the Fair Grounds. Roman Chapa will ride Awesome Glory for owner Louie Roussel III and trainer Andy Leggio in the $41,000 optional claimer at seven furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Caddymaster and Lord Clean Sweep in the second, Norway House and Danzonette in the third and I’mbethtoo, Our Southern Pearl and Daulide in the fourth.
