No. 1 Duke Gets Past Memphis

Shelden Williams matched his career high with 30 points, including the game-winning tip-in with 32 seconds left, to give No. 1 Duke a 70-67 victory over No. 11 Memphis on Friday night in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off in New York.

Duke’s Lee Melchionni was fouled after grabbing the rebound of a miss by Memphis’ Darius Washington Jr., but he missed two free throws with 11 seconds left.

Duke’s Sean Dockery got the rebound of the second miss and was fouled. He made one of two free throws for a 70-67 lead. Memphis freshman Shawne Williams hit the rim with a three-point attempt at the buzzer.

J.J. Redick had 15 points and freshman Josh McRoberts added 12 for Duke (5-0).

Williams had 15 points and Rodney Carney added 12 for the Tigers (3-1).

No. 7 Kentucky 81, Liberty 51 -- Junior forward Bobby Perry, making his second start, scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Wildcats (4-1) to victory at Lexington, Ky. Liberty fell to 1-2.

No. 10 Boston College 87, Drake 84 -- Jared Dudley scored a game-high 23 points, including 11 free throws, to lead the Eagles (4-0) past the Bulldogs (2-1) in the third round of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational at Las Vegas.

No. 14 Florida 74, Florida State 66 -- Taurean Green scored 15 points, all from the free throw line, and the Gators (5-0) overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the Seminoles (2-1) at Gainesville, Fla.

No. 15 Illinois 55, Wichita State 54 -- Warren Carter’s layup with 1.3 seconds left lifted the Fighting Illini (4-0) past the Shockers (3-1) in a semifinal of the South Padre Island Invitational at South Padre Island, Texas.

No. 17 Syracuse 96, Siena 77 -- Gerry McNamara broke out of his shooting slump, making six three-point baskets and scoring a season-high 22 points at Syracuse, N.Y., and the Orangemen (4-2) snapped a two-game losing streak. Siena fell to 0-2.

No. 24 Wake Forest 91, Appalachian State 78 -- Trent Strickland scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Demon Deacons (5-1) to their 20th victory in a row at Winston-Salem, N.C. D.J. Thompson scored 20 points to lead the Mountaineers (2-1).

DeVon Hardin scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and California (2-1) defeated Northern Colorado, 83-59, at Berkeley.... Josh Mayo scored 21 points and Jovan Stefanov had 11 rebounds as Illinois Chicago (3-2) took a surprisingly easy 73-51 victory over Georgia Tech (2-1) at Atlanta.
