Judge to Rule on Saving Cross on Public Land
A judge said Monday she would rule this week on the validity of a voter-approved ballot measure blocking removal of a cross atop Mt. Soledad.
San Diego County Superior Court Judge Patricia Cowett last month issued a preliminary order blocking the city from transferring land to the federal government to make the cross a federal monument.
A measure endorsed by voters in July supported the transfer as a way around a federal ruling that the cross must be removed because having it on city land violates separation of church and state.
