It Could Be a Healthy Addiction

Successful at 45-1 in her first race on the turf in the Osunitas Handicap on Aug. 10, Healthy Addiction will return to the dirt against only four opponents in today’s $80,000 Adoration Handicap at Del Mar.

Owned by Pamela Ziebarth and trained by John Sadler, Healthy Addiction, a 4-year-old Boston Harbor filly, has won three of 11 on the main track and has been second in five of her losses.

The one-mile Adoration, a race named in honor of the mare who was the upset winner of the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, will be the first start on the Del Mar main for Healthy Addiction.

The main threat is Fencelineneighbor. A winner of eight of 31 for owner John Amerman, who also raced Adoration, Fencelineneighbor gets a jockey change to Patrick Valenzuela after finishing third in an allowance on the Del Mar turf July 21. The 5-year-old Wild Rush mare is trained by Mike Machowsky.

Completing the field are Seeking The Heart, Moonlight Cruise and Dawn’s Angel.

Race of the day: So Sweet A Cat, who has won eight of 18 on the main track, returns to her preferred surface today as she takes on eight other New York-bred fillies and mares in the $65,000 Saratoga Dew at Saratoga. John Velazquez will ride the 4-year-old daughter of Tomorrows Cat for owner Jane Freed and trainer Ralph D’Alessandro in the 1 1/8 -mile race.

One for the road: Thirteen Colonies makes his first start for high-percentage trainer W. Bret Calhoun in today’s fourth at Arlington Park and can win for the seventh time in 16 starts. Joel Campbell will ride the 5-year-old Pleasant Colony gelding in the $30,000 claimer at 1 1/2 miles on the turf. Thirteen Colonies won his only previous start at the distance July 16 at Lone Star Park in Texas.

Exotically speaking: A place pick all using Dancing General in the first, Funky Friends in the second, Classical Lady in the third, Razik and Power By Jules in the fourth, Dreamabull and St. Amand in the fifth, Lord Supay and Right Proof in the sixth, Healthy Addiction in the seventh and Yearly Attitude, Mayacama and Polly’s Spirit in the eighth.
