Ball St. Suspends 13
Thirteen Ball State players, more than half of them projected starters, were suspended for today’s season-opening game at No. 11 Iowa in a continuing investigation of NCAA violations.
The university said Friday that 43 athletes in six sports improperly used a book loan program to obtain textbooks not required for their own courses or received improperly obtained textbooks from other players.
The football players suspended include the top returning rusher from last season, Charles Wynn, and the top returning receiver, Bryan Williamson.

New Mexico backup quarterback Chris Nelson pleaded guilty to aggravated drunk driving. He was sentenced to a first-offender DWI program on the misdemeanor charge, including 48 hours of community service.
Nelson, a junior, transferred in January from Garden City Community College in Kansas. New Mexico Coach Rocky Long has suspended him for the team’s opening game Monday night against Nevada Las Vegas.
