Reggie Ball threw for two touchdowns and a career-high 320 yards for No. 17 Georgia Tech, which held off North Carolina, 27-21, on Saturday in Atlanta.

After North Carolina pulled to within six points late in the fourth quarter, the Tar Heels stopped Georgia Tech on three plays and took possession at its 41 with 2:51 left to play.

Georgia Tech’s Dennis Davis intercepted a long pass from Matt Baker near the goal line to end the threat.

The Tar Heels got the ball again at their 19 with 44 seconds left, but Baker’s third intercepted pass of the game ended the comeback hopes.

Ball also ran for 20 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

In his first start, Baker completed 18 of 39 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score.

Calvin Johnson had six catches for 114 yards and P.J. Daniels rushed for 103 yards as Georgia Tech finished with 475 total yards.

No. 7 Virginia Tech 45, Duke 0 -- Marcus Vick threw three touchdown passes, and Roland Minor returned an interception for a touchdown for the Hokies, who remained unbeaten on the road in the league since joining last season.

Duke finished with 35 total yards on 53 plays, a woeful total made worse by the Blue Devils’ nine penalties for 68 yards.

Trailing, 10-3, with just over a minute left in the half, Florida State scored 45 straight points, including five third-quarter touchdowns, to take control of the game.

Weatherford completed 26 of 37 passes. His backup, Xavier Lee, was yanked after a first-half interception but passed for 143 yards and a touchdown in mop-up duty.

Lee ran 24 yards for another score for the Seminoles, who stayed on the ground for most of the fourth quarter, finishing with 629 total yards.

No. 19 Boston College 44, Army 7 -- Will Blackmon ran across the field and turned the corner for a 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter at Boston College, which plays host to Florida State next Saturday in the Eagles’ first league game since defecting from the Big East to help make the ACC a 12-team conference.
