A Cessna airplane crashed Sunday in the mountains near Wrightwood after taking off from Palmdale, killing two people on board, authorities said.
The twin-engine aircraft was heading for Gillespie Field in El Cajon, Calif., when it disappeared from radar at 11:20 a.m., said Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The wreckage was located later in the day. When rescuers reached the site, they found two bodies, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ban Nguyen.
