ROUNDUP
at New York 5, Toronto 1: Bobby Abreu, acquired from Philadelphia on Sunday, had a successful debut for the Yankees. He worked out a nine-pitch walk that loaded the bases in the fourth inning, and Bernie Williams followed with a tiebreaking, three-run double that led New York to victory. The win gave the Yankees (62-41) the lead in the American League East for the first time since mid-June.
Chicago 7, at Kansas City 5: Joe Crede had four hits, including a home run, and singled in the go-ahead run in a three-run 10th inning for the White Sox. Bobby Jenks gave up a solo homer to Angel Berroa before finishing for his 29th save in 31 opportunities.
at Baltimore 2, Seattle 0: Rodrigo Lopez (8-11) was too much for the Mariners, giving up only four singles in 7 2/3 innings. Melvin Mora and Nick Markakis each had a run batted in. Lopez, a right-hander, struck out five, walked none and permitted only one runner past first base.
Texas 9, at Minnesota 0: Adam Eaton pitched six sharp innings and Gary Matthews Jr. hit his second grand slam this season. Making his second start since having surgery on the middle finger of his pitching hand at the end of spring training, Eaton (1-1) earned his first win with the Rangers.
Cleveland 6, at Boston 3: C.C. Sabathia (8-7) pitched eight solid innings and Casey Blake hit his third homer in two games to help the Indians end a three-game losing streak.
