Actor Phillips Suspected of Abusing Girlfriend
“La Bamba” star Lou Diamond Phillips was arrested early Friday on suspicion of physically abusing his live-in girlfriend, Los Angeles police said.
Police were called to the 44-year-old actor’s home in the 8800 block of Shoshone Avenue in Northridge around 1:30 a.m., said LAPD spokeswoman Martha Garcia.
Officers determined that an argument had escalated into physical violence, Garcia said. Phillips was booked at the LAPD’s Devonshire station on suspicion of “co-habitant abuse,” she said.
Authorities said the case had been referred to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office. Jonathan Diamond, a spokesman for City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo, said the matter would be handled through the office’s hearing program, which mediates disputes.
“Obviously, this is something we think can be resolved through mediation rather than prosecution,” Diamond said.
LAPD officials, citing policy, declined to release Phillips’ booking photo.
