By noon, the fire had burned about 9,600 acres -- 15 square miles -- on Casper Mountain. The fire was burning in pine forest about five miles south of Casper, near the center of the state.
Gov. Dave Freudenthal earlier declared a state of emergency as the flames moved toward the subdivisions. About 300 homes were evacuated.
