In less than a year, Rocky Hinds has gone from the Nevada Las Vegas quarterback of the future to quarterback of the present.

Hinds, a sophomore who transferred from USC a year ago, was named the Rebels’ starter Monday, beating out senior Shane Steichen.

Hinds hasn’t played the last three seasons. He was injured in his senior season of high school, redshirted as a USC freshman and sat out last year under NCAA transfer rules.
