Drawn to Obama

Joel Pett is the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist of the Lexington Herald-Leader. His work also appears in USA Today.

The Baker-Hamilton report on Iraq, Holocaust deniers and the House Ethics Committee report on why former Rep. Mark Foley's escaped discipline were mere sideshows on the main political stage last week compared with Barack Obama. And while the junior senator from Illinois drew a crowd in New Hampshire, a crowd of cartoonists drew him.

Tom Toles' halo effect rings all too true, but Rex Babin lampoons the Barack star treatment. Signe Wilkinson had a ball-and-chain reaction, while Gary Varvel gift-wrapped dead-on caricatures of the entire field. Wait a minute, Gary left out the leftist ... poor Dennis Kucinich, who declared his candidacy Monday.

Some guys have the Midas touch, and others might as well believe in Santa Claus.
