Odom’s Play Has Laker Fans Really Smarting

Journalistic practices in Mike Bresnahan’s coverage of the Lakers’ loss to the Kings on Thursday might have prevented him from writing that Lamar Odom’s drive to the basket that resulted in an offensive foul with 22 seconds left was one of the stupidest blunders ever seen in a pro basketball game.

However, the First Amendment to the Constitution allows me to offer an opinion: What was Odom thinking? Better still, why wasn’t he thinking?

With Kobe Bryant being guarded by a rookie at the end of regulation in the Sacramento game, Odom decided to take a three-pointer. Brick! Nice thinking, Lamar. Don’t give it to one of the all-time clutch players. Try to be the hero yourself. The results speak for themselves.

I haven’t been as fired up about the Lakers recently as I was for the brief moment when Andrew Bynum scored on Shaq and the events that followed.

You could see the exuberance of youth. And his emotion seemed to have Staples buzzing again. Can we get this kid who clearly has a lot of promise a bit more playing time?
