A man who fired shots during a domestic dispute was shot and killed by police after he pointed a gun at them, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman said Saturday.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Friday along Paramount Boulevard, near the unidentified man’s home. Downey police were called to the home, but the man had left when they arrived. He and his wife had been arguing.

The officers found him nearby and shot him after he refused to drop his gun, authorities said. The man, in his 30s, died at the scene, said the Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating.
