The New York Mets’ weekend series with Arizona was billed as a showdown between first-place teams.

It turned out to be a showcase for the Mets, who completed a four-game sweep with a 15-2 rout Sunday at Phoenix, knocking the Diamondbacks out of the National League West lead.

“It’s a big-time sweep,” said Mets Manager Willie Randolph, whose team won its fifth straight game and 39th overall, most in the NL. “We’ve done a great job this year of winning series. Every once in a while it’s nice to sweep it and go four in a row. That’s even sweeter.”

Carlos Beltran went nine for 17 in the series with three doubles, three homers and 10 RBIs. He scored 10 runs in the series. Arizona scored nine.

New York starter Pedro Martinez (6-2) gave up one run in five innings to earn his first victory since April 28.

Pittsburgh 7, San Francisco 5 -- Jose Bautista hit his first career grand slam in the eighth inning, rallying the Pirates for their third straight victory at San Francisco.

The Pirates have a three-game winning streak for the second time in 2006 after getting four straight victories from May 29 to June 1.

Florida 7, San Diego 3 -- Cody Ross hit a three-run homer and Dan Uggla also connected for the Marlins, who shook off a 10-strikeout performance by Padres ace Jake Peavy at San Diego.

The Marlins, who took two of three from the Padres, lost shortstop Hanley Ramirez after he tumbled into the stands in the fifth inning. Ramirez was helped off the field and the team said he had a stiff lower back. Peavy (4-7) failed to go longer than five innings for the fourth time in five starts. He has been bothered by tendinitis in his right shoulder in recent starts.
