Man Dies of Wound After Shooting at Police
A man who exchanged fire with police Monday in an unincorporated area south of Los Angeles died of a gunshot wound, authorities said.
Lt. Paul Vernon said investigators were trying to determine whether the fatal wound came from police, a previous shooting or was self-inflicted.
Shortly after 1 p.m., two officers at 122nd Street and Vermont Avenue responded after hearing gunshots and were confronted by a man with a shotgun, Vernon said.
Witnesses told investigators the man exchanged gunfire with the officers before retreating to a duplex.
