Bronson Arroyo stayed unbeaten in Cincinnati by pitching a four-hitter for the second complete game of his career, and the Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-1, on Monday night in a matchup of the National League’s top two teams.

The Reds set a club record with 17 victories in April, and started a new month with the same winning formula: a lot of offense, a little dazzling pitching. Rich Aurilia hit a homer and Felipe Lopez broke an 0-for-17 slump, driving in three runs with a run-scoring single and a bases-loaded single.

San Diego 10, San Francisco 4 -- Brian Giles was hit by a pitch to start the Padres’ seven-run fourth inning and capped it with a run-scoring single at San Francisco.

Jake Peavy (2-3) pitched eight strong innings to win for the first time since opening day. He gave up six hits and two runs.

Giant outfielder Barry Bonds went 0 for 2 and was hit by a pitch, remaining at 711 home runs and three shy of tying Babe Ruth for second place on the all-time list.

Atlanta 2, Colorado 0 -- Tim Hudson pitched the second one-hitter of his career and drove in the first for the Braves at Atlanta.

Colorado pitcher Jason Jennings had the only hit against Hudson, a single to right with two out in the third inning.

The Atlanta right-hander retired the last 17 Colorado hitters.

Philadelphia 8, Florida 5 -- Pat Burrell homered for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to cap a comeback against Florida starter Dontrelle Willis at Miami.

The Phillies rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the seventh, scoring the tying run on a gaffe by rookie second baseman Dan Uggla. It was a hero-to-goat transition for Uggla, who had hit a two-run homer and scored from second base on a groundout.

New York 2, Washington 1 -- Endy Chavez scored on National reliever Gary Majewski’s throwing error in the ninth inning to give the host Mets the win.

With Chavez on second, Paul Lo Duca hit a bouncer back to Majewski, whose throw to second was high, glancing off the outstretched glove of shortstop Royce Clayton and into center field. Chavez slowed slightly as he approached third, then took off for home with the winning run.

Milwaukee 4, Houston 2 -- Bill Hall had three hits for the third straight game, and Damian Miller hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for the host Brewers.

The victory, Milwaukee’s sixth in its last seven games, was tempered by the loss of Tomo Ohka, who left the game after the fifth inning because of a right shoulder cuff strain. He will be reevaluated today.

Chicago 2, Pittsburgh 1 -- Matt Murton’s run-scoring single in the eighth inning gave the Cubs the win.

The Pirates dropped to 1-13 on the road and 7-20 overall.
