Parents can join mayor’s side in suit, judge rules
A Superior Court judge Tuesday allowed parents to join the side of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a lawsuit over legislation that gives the mayor some authority over the Los Angeles Unified School District.
A coalition led by the school district sued Villaraigosa and state officials over the law, claiming it is unconstitutional.
The district’s litigation allies include parents and parent groups. But the ruling now puts parents, including a nascent group called the Los Angeles Parents Union, on both sides of the case.
