Mike Kokal threw for 130 yards and a touchdown Wednesday night to lead Miami (Ohio) to a 9-7 victory over Bowling Green at Bowling Green, Ohio. Bowling Green’s Sean Ellis missed a 25-yard field goal wide left with 35 seconds remaining that would have given the Falcons (4-7, 3-4 Mid-American Conference) a 10-9 lead. Miami is 2-9 and 2-5.

Don Strock has resigned as coach at Florida International (0-9), one of only two winless Division I-A programs and a team still dealing with the effects of a sideline-clearing brawl against Miami last month. Strock will coach the final three games.... Penn State’s Joe Paterno, who turns 80 next month, said he has no plans to retire. “I’m not going anywhere,” the 79-year-old coach told his squad, according to a statement posted on a team website....
