Jones comes up big for Northridge

Terrell Jones made two free throws with 36.4 seconds remaining, then stole the ball to help Cal State Northridge hold on for a 95-92 victory over Pepperdine on Saturday at Northridge.

Jones, a senior reserve who played six minutes, stepped to the line with the Matadors (4-1) trailing, 92-91. He made both free throws after Pepperdine (1-3) had called timeout.

Jones then poked the ball away from a driving Jason Walberg, recovered it and passed to Rai Colston, who was fouled and made both free throws.

Reserve Jordan Noblitt scored a career-high 22 points for Northridge. Jonathan Heard had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Calvin Chitwood had 18 points before fouling out.

Gregg Barlow scored a career-high 24 points for Pepperdine. Marvin Lea had all of his 16 points in the second half, Chase Griffin had 16 points and Walberg scored 15.

Pepperdine trailed, 49-36, at halftime and fell further behind before mounting a 17-2 run that put the Waves down by two points with 13 minutes 50 seconds to play.

A 15-5 run gave Pepperdine an 84-79 lead. Heard scored five points in a 7-0 run that put the Matadors in front, 89-85. Pepperdine regained the lead, 92-91, with six consecutive points.

UC Riverside 75, Hope International 55 -- Larry Cunningham and senior guard Justin Bell each scored a game-high 14 points to lead the host Highlanders (3-2) to their second consecutive victory over an NAIA opponent.

The Highlanders used an 18-2 run to take a 16-point lead nine minutes into the game, and UC Riverside pushed its advantage to 47-17 at halftime.

Bryan Fincham scored a team-high 13 points for Hope International (1-6), which lost its fourth game in a row.

Loyola Marymount 71, New Mexico State 69 -- Brandon Worthy made an off-balance three-point shot with 0.9 seconds left to lift the host Lions on Friday.

Worthy led the Lions (2-1) with 28 points. Ted Knauber led the Aggies (1-1) with 14 points

WOMEN

No. 20 UCLA 70, UC Riverside 60 -- Noelle Quinn had a game-high 19 points and Amanda Livingston had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bruins at Riverside.

The Highlanders (0-3) cut the deficit to 35-34 with 15 minutes 26 seconds to play after a 16-3 run but the Bruins (2-1) pulled away after that.

Amber Cox had 13 points for Riverside.
