1 Killed, 1 Hurt in Foiled Robbery
From a Times Staff Writer
A clerk at a South Los Angeles grocery store Saturday shot two men -- one of them fatally -- during an attempted armed robbery, police said.
The men allegedly had tried to rob Lorena’s Market, 6745 S. Broadway, about 5:30 p.m. when a clerk approached from behind and opened fire with a pistol, police said. One robber was struck in the head and later was pronounced dead at a hospital. The other robber was hit in the upper body and fled in a car driven by an accomplice. The two suspects who survived were arrested.
