Cooling temperatures and rising humidity helped control a wildfire in the Sierra foothills that has consumed more than 3,700 acres and prompted voluntary evacuations, authorities said Saturday.

More than 1,200 firefighters were working to contain the Ralston fire, which threatened 100 to 200 homes in Placer County, said Mary Furney, a spokeswoman for Tahoe National Forest.
