A 21-year-old man was killed and another man wounded when a verbal dispute erupted in gunfire early Saturday outside a restaurant at the Puente Hills Mall, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Two groups of patrons had been arguing inside a TGI Friday’s restaurant just before 2 a.m., sheriff’s officials said. When the patrons moved to the parking lot outside the restaurant in the 17400 block of Colima Road, a man from one of the groups drew a gun and opened fire, said Deputy Carlos Lopez.

One man was struck in the upper body and died at the scene. His identity was being withheld pending notification of his family, Lopez said. Another man was shot in the lower body and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
