A new book on citizen activism and public service by former President Bill Clinton will be published this September, according to Sonny Mehta, editor in chief of Alfred A. Knopf.

The book, “Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World,” will focus on individual activists, some well known and others obscure, who have brought about meaningful change. Clinton will embark on a national tour to promote the book, publishing officials said.

A portion of Clinton’s proceeds from the book -- which will hit bookstores on Sept. 4 with a first printing of 750,000 copies -- will go to a variety of charities and nonprofit groups around the world.

“I’ve done my best in this book to demonstrate what I’ve seen firsthand through my foundation’s work in Africa and around the world: that all kinds of giving can make a profoundly positive difference,” Clinton said Tuesday in a prepared statement.

The book, which will also be issued as an e-book, a Random House audiobook and a large-print edition, is the second title that Clinton has been preparing. Earlier this year, Simon & Schuster announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Taylor Branch was working with the former president on a book composed of interviews Branch has conducted with the former president over the years. That book is due out next year.
